Will Stefano Travaglia cause the upset against one of the most in form clay-courters of 2021 in ATP 250 tournaments? Will Albert Ramos-Vinolas continue to find his form as clay tournaments come back to potentially win his 2nd title of the year? Both players are very skilled and both can win if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Umag Open. Who will it be?
Albert Ramos Vinolas is currently ranked #43 on the ATP Tour, and is the top seed here at the 2021 Umag Open. The Spaniard has had a very inconsistent 2021 season thus far, winning the title in Estoril but otherwise having some rather poor results. He lost in the First Round in Hamburg last week to Federico Delbonis and will be hoping to reverse his recent poor form with a solid week here in Umag. He was made to work in his Round of 16 win over the unheralded Duje Ajdukovic before winning in two very tight sets. He knows that he will have to be much better in the Quarter-Finals against the experienced Stefano Travaglia, an opponent who will not let him off the hook easily. Ramos-Vinolas enters this match against the Italian as the favorite but is likely in for a tough day at the office.
Stefano Travaglia is unseeded here at the 2021 Umag Open and is currently ranked #91 on the ATP Tour. The Italian had been in shockingly poor form entering this event, only registering one win out of his previous six tournaments. He would have been delighted to have won his First Round match here against Jaume Munar in straight sets, breaking the poor streak and he will be desperate continue winning. He displayed fantastic counter-attacking tennis against Munar, taking the few opportunities that he was given and registering a tough two set win. He enters this match against number one seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas as the underdog, but causing the upset is not totally out of the question given his opponent’s recent struggles.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and I am expecting a very tough battle. Both men have been in terrible form heading into this event, and will be desperate to win here and achieve a Semi-Final berth. It is hard to pick a winner here given their play recently, but I am going with Albert Ramos-Vinolas to get the win here. When they are both playing well, he is the stronger player in my opinion, and has more high-level experience than his opponent Stefano Travaglia. It will almost certainly be a very close one, but I’m backing the Spaniard to win here, advancing to the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Umag Open.
