This is sure to be a blockbuster of a match between two of the most exciting players in world tennis. Number one seed Stefanos Tsitsipas has established himself as a top 5 player in the rankings and has his eyes firmly set on the title here at the 2021 Acapulco Open. Young phenom Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada is only 20 years of age, but has already proven himself to be one of the best players in the world. Can he cause the upset here in Mexico? Or will Tsitsipas roll on to the Semi-Finals with yet another win?
Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently ranked #5 in the ATP world rankings and is enjoying a breakout season in 2021. While he has not won any titles yet, he has produced some stunning performances, most notably his five set comeback win over Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open. He has always shown promise, but it was with that win he finally announced himself as a serious contender in all major events. The young Greek star has been in dominant form thus far here at the 2021 Acapulco Open, defeating both Benoit Paire and John Isner in straight sets. He was particularly impressive in his win over Isner, winning 40% of the points on Isner’s first serve, which is a shockingly good statistic. Tsitsipas has matured greatly as a player, using controlled aggression to dominate his opponents. While Felix Auger-Aliassime is a very tough opponent, Stefanos Tsitsipas is the huge favorite here.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is currently ranked #19 in the world and has long been considered a future superstar by the tennis world. Unlike his opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas, he has had an inconsistent start to the 2021 season. The good performances have been mixed with early-round exits and he will be hoping for some consistency in his results going forward. He has been in fine form here so far, defeating Tennys Sandgren and Sebastian Korda, both in straight sets. He has displayed his trademark brand of attacking tennis, and has kept the unforced errors to a minimum, something that will go a long way against Stefanos Tsitsipas. He enters this match as the underdog, but certainly has the confidence and the game to cause the upset here at the 2021 Acapulco Open.
The two players have faced each other four times throughout their careers, with the head to head series tied at 2-2. However, Stefanos Tsitsipas has won the last two times they played each other, and is considered the heavy favorite to make it three in a row. They have both been in fine form here at the 2021 Acapulco Open and it is sure to be a very exciting battle filled with lots of flashy shotmaking. Despite the young Canadian’s fine form, I am going with Stefanos Tsitsipas to win here and advance to the Semi-Finals. He simply has a gear that the FAA does not have yet, and is a lot more consistent than the youngster. Expect a huge fight from Felix Auger-Aliassime, but Stefanos Tsitsipas looks unstoppable right now and will win here.
